Taylor Hall Construction Delay

(Fairfax, VA – July 14) – On June 18th, 2014, students within the Honors College LLC were notified that the construction of Taylor Hall would be delayed beyond its estimated date of completion, and will no longer be available to those in the Honors College LLC for the 2014-2015 academic year. Instead, Honors College students will be residing in the Commons (Carroll, Dickenson, Essex, and the first floor of Brunswick) for the year’s entirety. This decision to move the Freshman Honors LLC was a joint decision between Housing and Residence Life (OHRL), Honors College, and University Life. The University expects Taylor Hall to be ready for occupancy sometime in the fall semester, but an exact date is still unknown. There is currently no plan to move the Freshman Honors LLC into Taylor Hall once the building is complete and open.

On July 11th, 2014, the majority of the freshman class was notified of their 2014-2015 housing assignment. Some of these students were placed into “temporary expanded occupancy residence rooms,” and upon the completion of Taylor Hall during the fall semester, will be transferred into the new residence hall. We would like all freshman students to be aware of this issue as it might greatly impact the beginning of their Mason experience. Student Government will be working with OHRL and other offices to assist those impacted students with the move to their final residencies.

We encourage all students who are concerned about this issue, or would like more information, to contact the Honors Office at 703-993-1110, or the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 703-993-2720. Mason Student Government will provide updates on the Taylor Hall construction when available.
