Cabinet of Advisors
Secretary of University Services
This secretary will be responsible for informing the Student Body President on the status of services the University provides for students. In addition, this secretary will provide ideas to the University regarding potential additional services for students.
Secretary of Parking and Transportation
This secretary will be responsible for all knowledge regarding the parking situation for all parts of campus and all issues relating to student transportation. It is expected that this secretary be in attendance for all meetings that happen regarding any part of these issues.
Secretary of Housing and Dining
The Housing Cabinet works to serve students living off and on campus by providing solutions to issues, problems and concerns relating to off and on campus living. This Cabinet’s responsibilities include increasing awareness about housing options, developing a supportive network among students living on campus and to create a collaborative relationship between the Division of Housing and Student Government.
Secretary of University Life
This secretary will be expected to maintain an active knowledge of the George Mason University administration. Activities include staying informed on the administration’s objectives and ensuring the Student Body President is informed on all pertinent happenings in University Committees.
Secretary of Greek Affairs
The Greek Affairs Cabinet will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with the Four Greek Councils, those being Panhellenic Council, Inter Fraternity Council, National Panhellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek Council, as well as act as a liaison between the Greek System and Student Government.
Secretary of Diversity Affairs
The Diversity Affairs Cabinet works to bridge the gap between the different cultures on the George Mason University campus. In an effort to expand student and community awareness of various cultures, the Cabinet encourages collaborative efforts among all cultural organizations at George Mason University, address issues such as stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination, and most importantly reach out to the international community by celebrating diversity.
Secretary of Public Relations and Advertising
The Advertising Cabinet is responsible for working with all Cabinet chairs and student government officials to create and organize advertisements and advertisement strategies for student government, including print, radio, and television advertisements.
Secretary of Community Relations
The Community Relations Cabinet was designated to integrate community service into all aspects of campus life. It strives to make the George Mason University students conscious to social issues concerning their campus as well as their community. Through awareness we hope that we will inspire the student body to take ownership over their environment and want to benefit the surrounding community. The Cabinet will implement our mission through working with other service-oriented organizations on campus to create a larger impact. Community service is not only rewarding to the beneficiary but the volunteer as well.
Secretary of Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Cabinet promotes student awareness of local governments. The Cabinet will encourage students to be involved with the city and county commissions. The Cabinet will also promote student awareness by using various resources such as the Internet, newspapers, radio, and television to access political information. The main goal is to increase students’ knowledge of local government and how political decisions can affect them.
Secretary of Virginia 21
The VA 21 Cabinet tells Virginia’s next generation of leaders about important issues and why they matter. We give them the facts, show them how to impact the process, and point them in the right direction. A voter that’s informed about the issues and voting because they have a stake in those issues has become more than just a voter - they’re an active citizen.
Secretary of Athletics
The Secretary will collaborate with the Athletic Department to support and promote the Athletic Community. In addition, this position will work with Recreational Sports on all student issues relating to intramural sports and sports clubs.
Secretary of Information Technology
The Technology Cabinet directs the development of the Student Government website, serve as a liaison between the students and the university technical community, works with various other entities to disseminate information to the student body, and serve as a technical resource to other areas of Student Government as needed.
Elections Commissioner
Election Commissioner oversees all Student Body elections including Student Body President/Vice President and Student Senate. He or She is responsible for providing locations and ballots for the elections, administering on-line voting and ensuring accurate counting of these ballots. In addition, the EC enforces rules and regulations regarding student elections before, during and after voting to ensure secure, quality elections.
